January 23rd. One of the most depressing days of the year. Its a Monday. Christmas is long gone, but the bills are coming in. Another week until pay day. And there is little daylight.

To change things for the better, greyworld created a special Sun, which spread its dawn light throughout Trafalgar Square for one day only.

Weighing 2.5 tons, and using 210,000 watts of power, the Sun illuminated the Square to give Londoners a brighter start.

The project was commissioned by Tropicana. Below are three videos that show us creating the Trafalgar Sun.

greyworld’s Tail is finally available to own..

If you would like to purchase one, please click here.

The first twenty tails are numbered, signed and come with a copy of In The City, our latest book..

Everyone wants to have a tail.

We wanted one that could do all the naughty things you dream of, but dont dare. Get a Tail to express your cheeky side. So we created one! Its fully controllable, it can bend and flex and knock things off tables, tremble and twist and curl, and of course wag and get frisky.

Now, you can own one!

Ever since 2006, when we showed off the first Tail, the response has been overwhelming. Can I have one? Do you sell them? Make me a Tail! Finally, the answer is yes..

greyworld’s Tail is 62cm long (24″) plus tufty end and comes in Panther (Black) Snow Leopard (Black and White) Lion(ess) (Beige) and Bond Villain Cat (White) Each tail comes with a remote control Keyfob and Charger.

Clipping on to your belt or waistband, the Tail has 4 modes, selected by pressing a button on the tiny remote control. Mode one is Slow moves (eg slow wags, trembles,) Mode Two is fast moves, Mode Three is a selection of all the moves.. And the Fourth Mode is for dancing.. Tap the button in time to the music and watch your tail dance..!

We can make shorter Tails to order, and can also cover them in custom fabrics. Please email us for details at info@greyworld.org

A built in rechargeable battery is included, as well as a remote control, a Certificate of Authenticity and an instruction booklet.

Visit the Store

greyworld’s Tail is handmade artwork and is not suitable for children.

Located directly in front of the Centre, the installation is over twelve metres long. Comprising of 16 polished metal rods, the artwork responds to peoples voices.

As one speaks in to one end, the artwork leaps in to life, the sculpture modelling the amplitude of the persons speech.

The Copernicus Science Centre (Polish: Centrum Nauki Kopernik) is a science museum standing on the bank of the Vistula River in Warsaw. It contains over 350 interactive exhibits that enable visitors to single-handedly carry out experiments and discover the laws of science for themselves. Many artworks have been installed in and around the Centre.

The Centre is the largest institution of its type in Poland and one of the most advanced in Europe.

Paint is an installation commissioned by Nokia to mark the launch of their N8 phone.

Users are invited to pick up a paint bucket, and place it in the Filling Station. There, they can take their photo and see it flow in to the bucket. Once that is done, they can throw their painted face all over the wall..

Paint drips and flows across the wall, revealing the many faces of previous players.

Phones can also be used to throw paint – either by blowing, flicking or swiping on the screen. It was first shown at Nokia World, London 2010.

The installation is also featured in the TV advert for the N8. See below for more media..

The Source, an eight storey high kinetic sculpture, is the new symbol for the London Stock Exchange. Every morning, millions of viewers around the world will watch the installation come to life, signifying the opening of the London Markets.

On Tuesday, 27th July, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth unveiled greyworld’s latest installation at the new London Stock Exchange, in the heart of the city of London.

The Source is formed from a grid of cables arranged in a square, 162 cables in all, reaching eight stories to the glass roof. Nine spheres are mounted on each cable and are free to move independently up and down its length. In essence the spheres act like animated pixels, able to model any shape in three dimensions a fluid, dynamic, three dimensional television.

Visitors to the atrium are greeted by this motion: its particles rising and falling, generating an infinite range of figurative and abstract shapes that rise, dissolve and reform at different heights in the atrium. The shape of the sun rising on a new day of trade, the names and positions of currently traded stocks, the DNA helix at the centre of life formed by the work, and floating in the 32m void of the atrium.

This complex and sophisticated installation is a microcosm of activity, a living reflection of market forces.

Sound Awards celebrates the unique sounds found in our cities.

The project began thirteen years ago, as an ongoing art scheme in urban areas. Originally, the awards were installed without permission, appearing over night in areas of outstanding sonic importance.

In order that the plaques may be seen by many, the awards are now installed permanently, and their locations listed in the Sound Award logs that will be visitable online. We are currently in the process of adding the entire Soundawards list to the site, including maps and recordings.

For more information visit: soundawards.org when its complete!

P.S Over the years since we created the Soundawards installation there have been many projects that have sought to record or map areas of sonic importance. We will link to them here shortly. However, greyworld’s Soundawards installation is unique in several ways. Firstly, the project is primarily concerned with urban areas – the unmarked Sonic Monuments that exist in cities. In many ways, these are truer works of public art than the bronze statue or the highly polished rock we often find in cities. Secondly, whilst greyworld created the system, anyone can award a location a Soundaward and log its location.

“Invisible” has been created by acclaimed UK arts collective Greyworld in 19 sites across Burnley, East Lancashire.

The entire town of Burnley has become a canvas for magical paintings that appear and disappear throughout the day and night. Some as big as a house, others as small as a door, these paintings reveal a hidden side of Burnley, offering viewers the opportunity to explore the town in a whole new light.

It was the first of up to seven works of art across the UK to be revealed as part of the Big Art Project, an ambitious UK wide public art commissioning initiative. The documentary following the development of “Invisible” was shown every Sunday in May 2009, on Channel Four.
